Do you just love weird ways to get softer hair, lovelier skin, and just look more beautiful in general? In that case, you are going to love these 16 unexpected beauty hacks!
Plastic Bags on Your Feet
Plastic bags are useful for a lot of things. For example, they can make your feet softer! And the best part of it all, this is a hack that you can use while you’re sleeping!
Start with soaking your feet for a while and then use a nice foot scrub. Then, put some foot cream in two plastic bags and stick your feet into them and rub the cream around. Put on socks over the plastic bags and go to sleep, only to wake up with amazingly soft feet!
Plastic Bag on Your Hair
As we said, plastic bags are awesome, not only for your feet but also for your hair! Instead of rinsing out your hair treatment or conditioner, why not put a plastic bag on your head? Fasten it in your forehead with a bobble and go to sleep. You can also put a hat on to keep it in place, which will also warm up the hair and make it even softer. If you want more heat, use your hairdryer.
Curl Your Hair with Socks
Want to wake up with beautiful curls? Roll locks of hair on old socks that you tie. The more socks, the curlier curls! This can also be done with old strips of fabric, but hey, aren’t socks much more fun?! It works especially well on wet hair.
If socks aren’t your thing, find a hairband that goes around your head and roll up all your hair on it, which is also great for natural curls.
Wash Your Hair Without Shampoo
If you want to save your hair from harsh chemicals as much as possible, consider washing your hair with conditioner and only use shampoo when it’s absolutely necessary. If you choose your products carefully, it’s actually possible to never use shampoo at all, which is especially beneficial to curly hair. Most people who quit shampoo notice a big difference in their hair if they do everything right. Read more about the ‘no poo’ method here!
Heat up Your Eyeliner
We’ve all had hard eyeliners that feel like they’re hurting our eyelids without giving off much colour. That can easily be solved by heating it a little bit. Let it lie on a warm radiator, next to your cup of tea, or hold it over a tealight to get it to soften. It will almost melt and be much easier to apply!
Let Your Shampoo Lather
If you do use shampoo and didn’t care much for tip number 4, you are probably interested in getting your shampoo to last for longer. If you’re already familiar with this hack, you are going to think it’s an absolute no-brainer, but if you’ve never done this before, it’s going to be revolutionary. What is it?
Instead of putting shampoo directly in your hair, rub your hands together as if you were washing them with soap and get the shampoo to lather before you put it in your hair. It is going to spread out more evenly and will last longer since you can use less of it.
Use Lemon to Clear Your Acne Scars
Acne scars are the worst. But did you know that you can bleach them with lemon? Just like lemon can be used to lighten up your hair and whiten your teeth, so it can help with those annoying scars. Just make sure that you only apply it on scars, don’t put it in any open wounds, that stings!
Some people prefer making a scrub with sugar and lemon juice, others swear by applying a little lemon juice on your scars every night for two weeks or so.
Something that is very important to keep in mind is that lemon juice and sunshine don’t mix well and can actually lead to more marks than you originally had since the skin becomes more sensitive to the sun. So only apply lemon juice in the evening or if you plan to stay inside all day.
Apply Makeup in the Car
This hack is great for all those night owls who have trouble getting up early in the morning. Apply your makeup in your car, where the light is much better than in most bathrooms! It’s also great for tweezing your eyebrows as you can see all the little hairs more clearly! Make sure to bring along makeup wipes so that you can clean your hands when you’re done.
Use Foundation and Powder to Make Your Lipstick Last
This is the absolute best way to get your lipstick to last for hours on end. Start by peeling your lips and put on a lip balm that can pamper your lips for a few minutes while you’re doing something else. Then, apply foundation to your lips evenly. Put on a coat of lipstick and ‘bite’ on a piece of kitchen roll or a tissue. Then, dab on some powder. Ideally, you would do this with a brush, but if you don’t want to get lipstick all over your brush you can use your fingers. Then, it’s time to put on another coat of lipstick and bite again. Finish with a lip gloss or put on another coat if you need to.
Take a Shower to Get Flawless Nails
We all know how irritating it is when we paint our nails and get nail polish outside that seems to stay there forever if we don’t do something to remove it (which might adventure the nails). There is an easy solution to this- paint your nails before you take a shower. Just make sure that they have enough time to dry before you go in. Most of the unwanted nail polish will be gone by the time you’re done!
Use Conditioner on Your Brows
Every time you wash your hair, make sure to put some conditioner on your brows as well to give them some extra love. If you want to get fuller, more beautiful brows, you can also use a brow serum which makes them grow better and improves the quality of the hairs.
Remove Unwanted Mascara with a Cotton Bud
If you use mascara, you know exactly what it’s like when you accidentally get some under your eyes or even on your nose. (And it always seems to happen when you’re in a hurry and need to get ready quickly, what’s that about?!). The best way to remove these little mistakes is to wait until they have dried, which only takes a couple of minutes (have patience, my friend). Then, take a dry cotton bud and roll it over the mascara marks until they have disappeared.
Use Pantyliners Against Sweat Marks
Worried about underarm sweat stains? Why not put thin pantyliners on the inside of your top? They will soak up the sweat and make sure that you don’t get any stains.
Resurrect Broken Pressed Makeup with Coconut Oil
If you think that you have to throw out powders, eyeshadows, and blushes that are broken, think again! Crush them into a fine powder and mix with some coconut oil and voilà- your own cream makeup that might very well be just as good, if not better, as the original!
Create Your Own BB Cream
Now that summer is approaching, you might find that your skin doesn’t need a foundation with a lot of coverage. If you are wanting something lighter, why not mix your foundation with your favourite moisturiser (preferably one with SPF). Mix it in the palm of your hand until you’re happy with it. This hack works great for some products, whereas some just get grainy and weird when you mix them, so if you first don’t succeed, try again with another moisturiser!
Store Lipstick in the Fridge
If you have a lipstick that is just way too soft and for that reason hard to apply, keep it in the fridge. On that note, you shouldn’t keep nail polish in the fridge, as the cold will cause them to get thicker.
